Half day trip Ulefoss “Culture and history by the canal”
A taste of the Telemark Canal! Join in on a cruise down the Telemark Canal from Ulefoss and experience a taste of beautiful nature, history, and local food in one day. From Ulefoss locks you get on the canal bus which takes you to Lunde lock; the heart of the Telemark Canal. In Lunde you embark on one of the historical canal ships. This trip takes you through the Vrangfoss lock system, the largest flight of locks in the Telemark Canal. While in the locks you get to see the lock guards in action opening and closing the massive lock doors, an attraction you will find only here. The journey down the historic waterway will give you panoramic views of beautiful scenery.
Travel Route:12:05 attendance at Ulefoss lock bus stop, approx. 100 meters before the Ulefoss locks.12:22 departure with the canal bus from Ulefoss locks bus stop.12:50 arrival at Lunde lock.13:20 departure with M/S Henrik Ibsen or M/S Victoria from Lunde lock.15:20 arrival at Ulefoss locks.15:45 Guided tour at Øvre Verket (in Norwegian only)16:15 2-course menu at Spiseriet Restaurant.Guided tour:Once you disembark at Ulefoss locks, you will be met by the guide who will take you past Ulefoss Ironworks before you reach Øvre Verket.During the walk the guide will tell you about the area and the local history.This is an easy walk on mainly asphalt and gravel, and it’s just 10 minutes.PS: The guiding will be in Norwegian!Dining:At Spiseriet Restaurant at Øvre Verket you will be served a 2-course menu, included one beverage (choose between a glass of wine, beer, or mineral water).Child menu consists of pommes frites with hot dog or chicken nuggets, juice, and an ice cream.Øvre Verket:Øvre Verket is a collection of listed workers’ housing that offers a gift shop, exhibitions, and local crafts.Ulefoss is known as the oldest industrial site in Norway, and during your tour you will hear about what it was like for a worker at Ulefoss Jernværk to live here, amongst other things.The rate for this package can vary when it comes to your choice of date.Fees apply for bookings made over phone or email.Periods 2025:18th of May – 28th of August: Tuesdays – Sundays.
