The canal boats

 

 

Enjoy a trip on the beautiful Telemark Canal. Discover ancient cultural history, a bustling street life and experience lock as it took place over 100 years ago. Enjoy the journey from the deck of one of the historic canal boats; M/S Henrik Ibsen or M/S Victoria. M/S Henrik Ibsen will sail together with M/S Victoria in daily shuttle traffic from mid-May to mid-September and will continue the voyage alone until early October. M/S Telemarken runs in its own route from Norsjø/Akkerhuagen to Lunde and back in the period mid-June to mid-August.

M/S Henrik Ibsen® was built in Gothenburg in 1907 and operated in the Swedish archipelago as M/S Styrsö until 1993 when it came to the Telemark Canal and was named after Skien's famous poet Henrik Ibsen. In 2010, the boat underwent an extensive total restoration. Capacity 99 passengers;

M/S Victoria

 

M/S Victoria, also called the Canal Queen, was built at Akers Mekaniske Verksted in Oslo and was given build number 93 when the ship was launched on 11 February 1882. Since then, the ship has sailed through locks and over water on the Telemark Canal.

Security

 

 

All boats are safety certified according to Norwegian maritime regulations. The boats are equipped with life rafts and vests for everyone, and the crew has safety courses and all the necessary certifications. For the passengers' own safety, we encourage caution on board, including not running on deck, not keeping your hands out of the railing when the boat is inside a lock (crushing hazard) and not climbing or standing on benches/chairs. It is not mandatory for children to wear life jackets on board. If you still want children to use this, you must bring your own vests. We ask that parents keep children under close supervision throughout the journey. Note: It is strictly forbidden to get on and off the boat by any means other than via a gangway.
